Scared of the dentist...?

I have a weird fear of going to the dentist. They are so mean and always tell you you need something done, when you really dont( so they can get payed more). My cousin got her teeth done a long time ago and her two front teeth got chipped because of the dentist. Now i am REALLY scared of the dentist and getting checkups.help?
